Our Programs

We offer a variety of programs designed to support our veterans, their families, and our community. Explore our initiatives and see how we make a difference.

Founded in 1932, the Sons of The American Legion (S.A.L.) exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires.

S.A.L. members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military. Members of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of The American Legion comprise the Legion Family, which has a combined membership of nearly 3 million.

Although S.A.L. has its own membership, the organization is not a separate entity. Rather, S.A.L. is a program of The American Legion. Many Legionnaires hold dual membership in S.A.L.

Program Impact:

  • Assisting local posts in all activities
  • Supporting Veterans programs (VAVS)
  • VA home and hospital volunteering
  • Children & Youth activities
  • Fundraising initiatives

Since 1988, S.A.L. has raised over $6 million for The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. S.A.L. members have also:

Community Contributions:

  • Volunteered over 500,000 hours at veterans hospitals
  • Raised over $1,000,000 for VA hospitals and VA homes
  • Supported the Citizens Flag Alliance—a coalition dedicated to protecting the U.S. flag from desecration through a constitutional amendment

  • All male descendants, adopted sons, and stepsons of members of The American Legion are eligible.
  • Male descendants of veterans who died in service during:
    • World War I
